Customising your WordPress Portfolio

I’ve always thought that WordPress websites were the best way to get your photography portfolio online without relying on other peoples services. WordPress is a free download, and you can purchase your own domain and hosting. Just like a mailing list, it’s one of the only times you’ll completely own your own content. Anything uploaded to photo sharing or portfolio websites could disappear with no warning at any time.

A basic site is good for many, but sometimes you might want to customise your site to match your brand, and that’s where font plugins can come in useful for your WordPress portfolio. Here are some suggestions for WordPress plugins that let you customise the fonts on your portfolio website.

Fontsy

Fontsy is a custom fonts WordPress plugin that I use on another site. It’s really simple to use and has a whole load of great features. One of the best features is that you can import your own fonts to use. So if your brand designer has created you something special then you can upload and use that font natively on your WordPress portfolio!

This plugin is simple to use and enables you to further customise the font once you’ve uploaded it. You can change the size, style, margin, padding, and plenty of other aspects. This makes it perfect for creating variations that will make your heading stand out on your posts.

Adobe Fonts

Adobe Fonts is a great alternative to custom fonts WordPress plugin. And probable the best thing about it for photographers is that many of us will already have access to it through our Adobe subscriptions. It doesn’t allow you to use custom fonts of your own. But it does give access to thousands of fonts that are all licensed for commercial use in your website.

If you’re building your brand from scratch using one of the fonts from the Adobe Fonts library can be a good place to start. You know that the fonts will be available natively in your Adobe software as well as on your WordPress portfolio.

WP Google Fonts

Many themes come prepacked with Google Fonts. But if they don’t then it’s simple to add a plugin for this functionality. WP Google Fonts is a simple to use plugin that adds Google Fonts options to your WordPress portfolio.

It’s regularly updated with new fonts and provides access to the whole range of Google fonts. Again, you can’t upload your own custom font. But if you’re looking for something more mainstream then this is a great solution.

Use Any Font

This is another plugin that allows you to use custom fonts without knowing any code. The fonts are stored on your own server. This means that you aren’t reliant on a third party’s uptime for your WordPress portfolio to be displayed correctly.

With premium mode, multiple custom fonts are allowed. This means that if you have two or more fonts as part of the branding package from your designer, you can use them all with this plugin.

Custom Fonts

Brainstorm Force have come out with this great plugin for custom fonts that works well with the Elementor drag and drop page builder. It’s worth checking out if this is how your site is built.

This plugin allows you to upload most font formats to your site, which some others do not support. It’s one of the more flexible plugins available to add custom fonts to your WordPress installation.

There are lots of options out there for plugins to add custom fonts to your WordPress portfolio. I’ve listed just a few here, but do check out a Google search if you want to perhaps find some other options that suit your WordPress portfolio.
