It has been my ambition for some time to become a unit stills photographer. The images shown in this part of my portfolio are taken from live-action roleplaying games where participants act out a character over an extended period of time – like theatre but with no script.
Photographing live-action roleplaying games requires a combination of technical skill, instinctive reaction, and creativity. Nothing can be staged. Participants are never asked to move or emote for my photographs. I avoid individuals eye-lines wherever possible and I try to avoid being noticed as I take pictures.
There are no second takes in LARP. There is only a single opportunity to capture a moment, and that moment comes with no warning.
